Hungary commemorates the victims of the Holocaust on 16 April, the date of the establishment of the first ghetto on Hungarian territory (in Munkács) in 1944.
Hungary's Holocaust Memorial Day was first marked in 2000. Since then, the marking of Holocaust Memorial Day has been compulsory in secondary schools.
